The Hunter Valley

The Hunter Valley is a 150km region of Australia steeped in wineries, culture, heritage and mountains. Known as the ‘Wine Country’, the Hunter Valley is the perfect location for wine and food lovers to visit, with a wide variety of alcoholic beverages, cheese and stunning surroundings to enjoy them in. Even if wine isn’t your beverage of choice, you can visit the Blue Tongue Brewery at the Hunter Resort where you can sample its boutique beers bottled straight at the cellar door.

The weather is slightly cooler here than in some regions of Australia, but there is plenty to do inside and out, making it a perfect destination for winter as well as summer.

Pokolbin is the centre of the action where you will find a large range of eateries, restaurants and places to drink. Accommodation is plentiful with guesthouses and hotels found by the dozen. However, if you are looking for a more secluded and relaxed holiday, then you can travel to Barrington Tops where you can explore beautiful rain forest abundant with native animals and birds. Day tours are available here as well, making your day stress free.

Maitland is a key location for shopping in the Hunter Valley but don’t expect to find commercial brand stores. Instead you can visit small boutiques and art shops; grocers offer local produce; and antique and crafts are at the local markets. Pick up some local wine here and enjoy it at your indulgence with the beautiful landscapes as the perfect backdrop.

The Hunter Valley is an area known for wine, natural areas and relaxing holidays. The Hunter Valley Eguide provides detailed Hunter Valley tourism information. Download the Hunter Valley travel guide for Hunter Valley tourist information.
