The place to go in Geelong, which is Victoria’s second-largest city and located around an hour’s drive west of Melbourne, for bargains is the Belmont Sunday Market.
Located near the picturesque Barwon River, the Belmont Sunday Market is open every Sunday. The shopping starts at around 8:00 in the morning and the stall holders will finish up just after lunch at 1:00 in the afternoon.
The stalls are outside as well as inside the BVAC, the Barwon Valley Activity Centre. The address is Barwon Heads Road, Belmont. Parking and entry to the market are free.
Shoppers can expect to find a wide array of second-hand items for sale. Along with second-hand books, clothing, toys and collectables there are also second-hand electrical goods available at the Belmont Sunday Market. Food is available in the Belmont Sunday Market at numerous food vans.
When driving to the Belmont Sunday Market from the city centre of Geelong, or from Melbourne, you need to cross the Barwon River. The Princes Highway will go past the market area, and rivers will need to turn right at Barwon Heads Road. Another way to get there is along the old route of the Princes Highway, using Moorabool Street which then becomes High Street on the Belmont side of the river.
The Belmont Sunday Market is located near K-Mart in Belmont. Travel along High Street for more shopping or to find a place to eat. Kardinia Park, where the AFL’s Geelong Cats play, isn’t far away from the market area and those travelling west along the Princes Highway will see the football stadium on their left. Other places of interest in the area are the beaches of Geelong and while continuing west out of Belmont a journey along the Great Ocean Road begins.
