Kingston Farmers Market

Held on the first Saturday of each month, except for the month of January, the Kingston Farmers Market is the venue to find an assortment of fresh produce and other food.

Vegetables, including some organically-grown, available include rhubarb, turnips, lettuce, carrots, corn, potatoes, cabbages, olives, pumpkins, mushrooms and broccoli. Sellers also bring in truckloads of fresh fruit when they are in season.

Fish products are available at the Kingston Farmers Market with tasty barramundi, trout, mussels and eel. Those looking for eggs will find them in abundance at the market.

Prepared foods include fresh fruit juices, veggie burgers, hot chilli sauces, honey, specialty cheeses, sour dough and grain breads and focaccias. A barbecued breakfast including bacon and eggs, rolls and coffee can be purchased there.

Plants are also for sale at the Kingston Farmers Market. There are shrubs as well as vegetable and flower seedlings.

The Kingston Farmers Market is located in the Sir William Fry Reserve in Highett, which is across the road from the large Southland shopping mall. The market is on the corner of Nepean Highway and Bay Road. To get to the market from the Melbourne CBD, drive along the Nepean Highway or alternatively take the scenic Beach Road route. There is a lot of free parking available the Southland shopping mall but different time limits apply throughout the area. For better access to the Kingston Farmers Market, park on the Coles and K-mart side of the mall.

To take public transport to the Kingston Farmers Market, catch a bus that stops at Southland or board a Frankston Line train and stop at Cheltenham Station. Buses stop outside the train station for those who don’t want to walk from the train station to the market, and these stop at the Southland bus stop which is just across the road from the market.

The Kingston Farmers Market opens at 8:00 in the morning and closes at 12:30 in the afternoon. It costs two dollars to enter the market.

During the month of December there is an additional event at the market. In the lead up to Christmas there is a Twilight Market. Along with the usual assortment of products there are items specific to the season, with Christmas puddings among the items for sale.
